An officer with the Orange Village Police Department was injured during an altercation with a man Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to the Extended Stay America Hotel, located in the 3800 block of Orange Place, for reports of an unwanted guest who was "being disrespectful to hotel staff."

The officers at the scene made contact with the man, who was identified as a 26-year-old, and a physical altercation occurred. During the altercation, the man used an 'edged weapon' to attack officers without warning or provocation, police say.

The man was tased by an officer and later taken into custody. He was then transported to Ahuja Hospital for evaluation and treatment. His condition is unknown at this time. Officials are not identifying the man involved until formal charges have been filed.
