10 New Year's Eve shootings reported in Cleveland, including 1 at downtown nightclub

Police have not provided info on any suspects.

CLEVELAND — Police say there were 10 shootings reported in Cleveland on New Year's Eve between the hours of 6 p.m. and 3 a.m.

One of the shootings was fatal, marking the first homicide of the year, as a man shot his 31-year-old girlfriend as he fired celebratory rounds in the air around 12:15 a.m. on Merrill Avenue.

Several people were also shot outside a downtown Cleveland nightclub.

It happened after a fight started around 1 a.m. at the Medusa Restaurant and Lounge, located near E. 13th Street in the 1400 block of St. Clair Avenue.

Police say four people were shot and at least two people were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in unknown conditions. They also say they are looking for another potential shooting victim who may have left the scene.

Police have not provided info on any suspects.

The other shootings happened as follows:

  • 6 p.m.: 27-year-old man admitted to Marymount Hospital, said he was shot near Turney Road and New York Avenue.
  • 6 p.m.: 22-year-old man admitted to Fairview Hospital; said he was shot in the abdomen at Mohican Park off Triskett Road.
  • 9 p.m.: 69-year-old man shot in the back in the 2900 block of Roanoke Avenue
  • 10 p.m.: 30-year-old man shot in the chest and back in the 5600 block of Woodland Ave.
  • 11 p.m.: 22-year-old man shot in the leg in the 4000 block of E. 146th Street
  • 12 a.m.: 34-year-old man shot in the face in the 10000 block of North Boulevard
  • 2 a.m.: 16-year-old girl admitted to MetroHealth Medical Center with gunshot wound to the foot; said she was shot near E. 55th Street and Kinsman Road.
  • 3 a.m.: 27-year-old man admitted to St. Vincent Charity Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the foot; would not give information on shooting's location.

A MetroHealth Medical Center spokesperson told 3News that the hospital received 11 shooting victims between the hours of 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. New Year's Eve.
