Sheriff's deputies searching for suspect who attempted to kidnap 4-year-old boy in Summit County

AKRON, Ohio — Summit County Sheriff's deputies are asking for the public's help in finding the suspect who attempted to kidnap a 4-year-old child on Thursday. 

The incident happened at approximately 8:55 p.m. in a parking lot located in the 3300 block of Manchester Road in Coventry Township.

Deputies received a report that a woman was in the parking lot screaming for help. She told officials that a man attempted to kidnap her four year old son. 

The suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Cody T. Gordon of Akron. 

Gordon told the woman she and her child needed to leave her house with him for their safety due to activity of her estranged husband. He took the boy four  from the house and fled with him in his vehicle. The mother followed Gordon and eventually he stopped in the parking lot on Manchester Road. She retrieved her son, but Gordon threatened her and confirmed his intention to abduct the boy. 

The female then screamed for assistance as she fled from Gordon. He abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot, but has yet to be located by law enforcement officials.

 An arrest warrant has been issued for Cody Gordon for Kidnapping.
