GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — The man accused of killing an 83-year-old man at an Independence gas station earlier this month is making his first court appearance Monday.
U.S. Marshals took 48-year-old Cronie Lloyd into custody Friday at his place of employment in Ravenna, Independence Police Chief Michael Kilbane said at a press conference. According to Kilbane, Lloyd previously spend more than a decade in prison for rape, robbery, and aggravated burglary.
According to officials, both Lloyd and the victim -- Fairview Park resident Gary Power Sr. -- left a local lounge at the same time early Sunday morning before both got into "some type of traffic altercation." The two then met at the Sunoco gas station on Rockside Road and spoke to each other before Lloyd assaulted Power.
Police later found Power passed out on the pavement around 2 a.m. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he died two days later from what the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner called trauma to the head.
