Teen among 2 killed in pair of Akron weekend shootings

AKRON -- Police are investigating a pair of homicides that occurred downtown during the weekend.

The first killing happened Friday night at Osage Alley and Park Street. Police responded to a report of a crash and found the driver dead at the scene. Investigation later revealed the driver had been shot.

The Summit County Medical Examiner on Monday identified the victim as 69-year-old Thomas Baker, of Barberton. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

The second homicide happened in the 700 block of Merton Avenue Sunday night.

Responding officers found three victims, all 17 years old, with gunshot wounds at the scene. One victim was found inside a car and pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim was located at Inman Street and McKinley Avenue with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. A third victim was found later with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

A fourth person was in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, but did not suffer any injuries.

Police have not provided information on any potential suspects in either incident.
