AKRON, Ohio — The Memorial Day holiday weekend saw three people shot in separate incidents in Akron.

The first incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Friday when a 21-year-old man was shot multiple times at the Circle K in the 900 block of S. Arlington Street. The victim was taken to Summa Health Akron City Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A short time later, 22-year-old Davin Proctor was spotted by officers walking away from the scene, westbound on E. Archwood Ave. Police say Proctor was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun and was arrested and charged with Discharging Firearms within City Limits and booked into the Summit County Jail. An investigation remains ongoing.

The second incident occurred just before 9 p.m. on Monday when officers responded to shots fired call around Orrin Street and S. Hawkins Avenue. Around the same time that officers arrived at the scene and encountered a large, hostile crowd, an 18-year-old male who had been shot in the arm and chest by an unknown suspect near Orrin Street and Nome Avenue walked into the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center. The victim’s injury is believed to be non-life-threatening.

Upon arriving on the scene, officers observed a man standing within arm’s reach of an AR-15-style rifle in plain view inside a vehicle with its windows down. The man was later identified as 21-year-old Demauri Dabney.

Dabney allegedly backed away upon being approached by officers, but was taken into custody despite attempting to escape an officer's grasp. Dabney was later transported to Summa Health Akron City Hospital for treatment after sustaining a leg injury and was charged with Improper Handling Firearms in Motor Vehicle, Obstructing, and Resisting Arrest, later admitting the rifle was his.

Officers also recovered a second weapon, a loaded handgun, and other evidence during a search of the vehicle. Multiple shell casings and other evidence were found in the street.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting remains ongoing.

Officers responded to a residence in the 700 block of Fleming Drive at 12:40 a.m. on Tuesday following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive 22-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen. The man was transported to the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, where he is currently in critical condition.

Occupants of the home told police that the victim was out looking for what was described as stolen property and returned to the apartment and told them he was shot. An investigation into the circumstances of the shooting remains ongoing.
