Three teens arrested on weapons charges during traffic stop in Akron

Police recovered three loaded handguns from the car.

Three teens were taken into police custody on Monday after a traffic stop in Akron.

According to reports, officers stopped the car near Lawton Street and Storer Avenue around 7:40 p.m. for a traffic violation and suspicious activity.

Police say the three teens were directed to exit the vehicle due to safety concerns created by the teens' actions. When the driver and front seat passenger, both 18 years of age, exited the car, two loaded magazines fell to the ground. 

The third passenger, a 13-year-old boy, was also ordered out of the car and detained. 

Officials went on to search the vehicle and recovered three handguns.  An AR-style pistol and a 9mm handgun were found on the front seat and floor, while another 9mm pistol was found on the rear passenger floor where the 13-year-old boy was seated.

The driver was charged with improper handling firearms in a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, tampering with evidence and weapons under disability.  The front seat passenger was charged with improper handling firearms in a motor vehicle . 

Both men were later transported to the Summit County Jail. 

The juvenile was charged with improper handling firearms in a motor vehicle and taken to the Juvenile detention facility.
