Trial under way for 2 Cuyahoga County Jail officers connected to alleged beating of inmate

One allegedly struck the inmate repeatedly in his head, knocking out his teeth and causing another tooth to be forcefully lodged into the inmate's nasal cavity.

CLEVELAND — The trial is under way for two Cuyahoga County Jail officers charged in connection with the alleged beating of an inmate more than a year ago.

Officer John Wilson is charged with felonious assault, interfering with civil rights, and unlawful restraint. According to officials, he struck the inmate repeatedly in his head, knocking out his teeth and causing another tooth to be forcefully lodged into the inmate's nasal cavity, which resulted in surgery and facial reconstruction.

Officer Jason A. Jozwiak, meanwhile, has been charged with falsification and interfering with civil rights after allegedly refusing to permit a nurse to care for the inmate while the inmate sat in a restraint chair with a broken nose and broken teeth.
