9 shot, 3 killed following violent weekend in Cleveland

In addition, there were multiple stabbings and a man was seriously injured after being run over by a pair of cars.

CLEVELAND — Another brutal weekend in the city of Cleveland has left three people dead and six others hurt as a result of multiple shootings.

The violence began early Friday morning, when a 44-year-old man was found shot in the head within the 3000 block of East 123rd Street following an apparent robbery just after 6:30 a.m.. The victim, identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner as Demond Donerson of Skaker Heights, died from his injuries at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

No arrests have been, but police are currently searching for two suspects — one male and one female. Their names are not known at this time.

Roughly six hours later, a 23-year-old man was found dead on the 4000 block of Pearl Road under a bridge near the railroad tracks. A witness told investigators they had heard gunshots in the area, and authorities claim to have found shell casings in the area. The victim has been identified as Charles Eggers, of Cleveland.

Then on Sunday, at roughly 3 a.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the hip inside a home on the 6900 block of Kinsman Road, with others on scene telling officials the gunfire came from outside. While the victim was conscious and breathing at the time, he was later pronounced dead at UH, and has since been identified as Cleveland resident Derrion Miller.

In addition, there were six other shootings during the three-day period, with the timeline as follows:

  • Friday, 5:28 p.m.: A 22-year-old man was shot in the arm near the intersection of East 140th Street and Kinsman. Taken by ambulance to UH.
  • Friday, 8:38 p.m.: A 44-year-old woman was shot in the calf within the 1100 block of East 87th Street, allegedly by a family member. Taken by private auto to Cleveland Clinic.
  • Friday, 10:57 p.m.: A 14-year-old girl was shot in the head near the intersection of East 152nd Street and Lakeshore Boulevard, with witnesses saying the suspect fired into a crowd at a birthday party. Her condition is unknown at this time.
  • Saturday, 11:16 p.m.: A 25-year-old woman was shot in the head on the 2300 block of Denison Avenue. She was taken by ambulance to MetroHealth Medical Center and an unidentified suspect was arrested at the scene.
  • Sunday, 12:03 a.m.: A 19-year-old man arrived at Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital via private auto after being shot in the toe. He told police the incident occurred on Bessemer Avenue.
  • Sunday, 10:11 p.m.: A 43-year-old man was shot multiple times on the 1000 block of East 78th Street. Taken by ambulance to UH.

There were also several other non-shooting incidents, including an apparent hit-skip on East 55th Street near Linwood Avenue where a man was run over by multiple cars before being taken to UH with serious injuries. In addition, a 26-year-old man was taken to Metro after being stabbed in the neck in an apparent domestic violence incident, and another man is in critical condition after being stabbed in the stomach on East 30th Street. A 59-year-old man also died of a suspected overdose on Bennington Avenue.

A cash reward of up to $5,000 may be available for info relating to each case.
