WICKLIFFE, Ohio — A SWAT standoff in Wickliffe came to an end Friday morning with a suspect being taken out of a home on a stretcher.

The standoff began around 8:50 a.m. on the 30000 block of Regent Road when officers responded to a report of a man bleeding after an assault. Police say a 52-year-old man was in one of the home's bedrooms and made verbal contact with officers but refused to come out claiming to have a gun. The Western Lake County SWAT Team was called in about an hour later.

The suspect still did not exit the bedroom even after tear gas was used, and SWAT officers eventually entered the room around 11:30 a.m. and took him into custody. He is currently in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, although further observation is expected.

Authorities say the man will face "several" charges once he is released, and that he had been wanted on a domestic violence charge prior to the standoff. The alleged victim in the domestic case is the suspect's roommate.
