Federal authorities Friday arrested a Wickliffe man accused of shooting and killing a man in Cleveland last year.

Jonathan H. Mayweather, 29, was taken into custody in Charlotte, North Carolina following a two-month manhunt. He is charged with aggravated murder and is currently awaiting extradition back to Northeast Ohio.

According to officials, Mayweather and another man attempted to rob 34-year-old Maple Heights resident Sean Fuqua back on Dec. 30, 2018 in Cleveland's Hough neighborhood. The three men fought, and Mayweather allegedly shot Fuqua in the back. Fuqua later died from his injuries.

A warrant was issued for Mayweather's arrest back on June 7, but it wasn't until this month that U.S. Marshals were able to trace his whereabouts to North Carolina. He was apprehended "within a day."

"This arrest is a result of hard work, dedication and outstanding team work," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliot said in a statement. "The reach of the U.S. Marshals Service is great, and no one will outrun that reach, especially those wanted for such violent crimes."

Mayweather could potentially face the death penalty for his alleged crimes.
