Cleveland State extends spring break through March 22, will conduct all classes online once students return

The move is a direct response to the global coronavirus pandemic.

CLEVELAND — Cleveland State University has joined other local colleges in responding to the coronavirus pandemic, announcing they will move all classes online for the time being.

The school on Wednesday announced it will cancel all classes through next week, extending spring break for students through March 22. Once those students return on March 23, classes and other instruction will take place in a remote setting until at least April 23.

In addition, CSU has suspended all sponsored international travel and will cancel or reschedule all planned events that would have more than 100 people in attendance. Athletic events are expected to continue, but fans will not be allowed to attend ones that take place indoors.

The new measures directly follow recommendations put forth by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, who on Wednesday went further and said he would be ordering a ban on all mass gatherings throughout the state. Four state residents have tested positive for the virus so far, and the governor has declared a state of emergency.
