Committee presents reopening recommendations to Akron City School Board

Each grade level is represented by a different model.

AKRON, Ohio — As the state of Ohio continues to wait for guidance on if students in grades K-12 will be able to return to schools in the fall, officials in Akron have come up with their own recommendations. 

On Monday, a committee of administrators, teachers, and parents presented recommendations to the school board.

Each grade level is represented by a different model. Parents will have the option of allowing their children to fully learn remotely or participate in blended learning.

Pre-School Model:

  • Nine students per classroom 
  • Five days per week, half-day sessions
  • Site based learning

Elementary Model:

  • 24 or less students per teacher- split between two classrooms
  • Five days a week
  • Site based learning

Elementary Model---3/5 Blended Learning:

  • 24 or less students per teacher, 1/2 attend two days, other 1/2 attends opposite days
  • Two days per week, site based learning
  • Three days per week, remote learning

Middle School Model: 

  • 24 to 30 students per teacher,1/2 attend two days, other 1/2 attends opposite days 
  • Two days per week site based learning
  • Three days per week remote learning

High School Model-- Project Based Learning: 

  • Less than 12-15 students per group, school serves as activity central with flexible blended academics
  • APS Connected Learning 2.0 with students on site for collaborative projects
  • Full week blended instruction
