COLUMBUS, Ohio — Earlier this month, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced his intentions to have K-12 schools resume classes throughout the state this fall.
While his back-to-school plan has not been discussed at length, Gov. DeWine said he expects to reveal more information at some point next week.
“Each school is going to be different,” DeWine said Tuesday when announcing he expects to release guidelines for schools within the next 10 days. “Just like in a typical winter where you might have the flu that hits a school district or part of a school district, a certain elementary school, because of flu, might have to close down. That is a local decision. Getting that data to local officials, to local communities, is part of what we have an obligation to do.”
His comments came when he was asked if the state would consider reinstating closures or pausing the reopening process if Ohio sees a spike in coronavirus cases.
Gov. DeWine had ordered Ohio school buildings closed to in-person learning back in mid-March, which continued for the remainder of the academic year.
