Willoughby-Eastlake Schools delays start of high school calendar until Sept. 3

Willoughby Eastlake North and South High Schools will delay their start of their 2019-20 school year from August 15 to September 3.

Students of Willoughby-Eastlake High Schools will have to wait a little bit longer to than expected to return to school.

On Friday, Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools superintendent Steve Thompson left a message with students informing them the first day of school at Willoughby North and Willoughby South High Schools will not be until Sept. 3. The original first day of school had originally been scheduled for Aug. 15.

Thompson's message cited the current conditions of the high schools as the reasoning for the delay.

"Because of the current conditions of the buildings and the inability of our staff members to begin working in the building, I do not feel it would be an environment that would be conducive to learning," Thompson said in the recording. "The orientation meetings originally scheduled for the high school students will be rescheduled. You will also find this information on your high school's website. I appreciate your patience and understanding and regret that it was necessary to bring you this news today."
