Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals ranked among best in nation

The Cleveland Clinic has been named the No. 1 heart hospital in the entire country.

CLEVELAND — U.S. News & World Report's annual hospital rankings is giving the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals high marks.

The 2019-20 rankings evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide, based on specialties, procedures and conditions.

The Cleveland Clinic was ranked as the No. 4 hospital in America. and the No. 1 heart care hospital.

The Clinic was also ranked high in the following categories:

- Rheumatology (2)

- Gynecology (3)

- Gastroenterology & GI surgery (4)

- Nephrology (4)

- Urology (4)

- Cancer (6)

- Pulmonology & lung surgery (7)

- Geriatrics (8)

- Neurology & neurosurgery (10)

- Ophthalmology (10)

Meanwhile, UH ranked in the top one percent of hospitals, and distinguished as the No. 2 hospital in the state.

UH also ranked in the national top 50 in the following categories:

- Cancer (30)

- Cardiology & heart surgery (24) 

- Ear, nose & throat (39)

- Gastroenterology & GI surgery (28)

- Geriatrics (45)

- Nephrology (34)

- Neurology & neurosurgery (22)

- Urology (26)

In addition to the rankings, U.S. News & World Report provided ratings for common procedures and conditions among hospitals. UH earned "high performing" ratings in eight of nine.
