One person is dead after a car collided with a fuel tanker on I-77 North Sunday morning.

According to reports, a fuel tanker collided with a wrong-way driver on I-77 North at Pershing Avenue around 5 a.m.

The driver traveling in the wrong direction has been identified as a 43-year-old black male.

He was driving a 2007 Chevolet Trail Blazer.

The driver of the fuel truck, 60-year-old white man tried to avoid the Blazer, swerving into another lane.

The Cleveland Fire Department reports that the tank ruptured, spilling around 500 gallons of fuel. HazMat Crews arrived on scene and used foam to begin the clean up.

The highway will remain closed from Fleet Ave to Broadway Ave for several hours as EPA crews work to clean up the fuel spill.

The driver of the Blazer was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fuel tank driver did not report any injuries.
