Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals restrict nearly all visitors to curb coronavirus spread

Caregivers will also receive daily temperature checks.

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals announced on Friday they will be restricting all visitors in all Ohio locations to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

At the Clinic, all visitors will be asked to leave immediately. Going forward, there will only be three exceptions to the visitor ban:

  • Children will be allowed one visitor
  • New mothers will be allowed one visitor
  • Visitors for end-of-life patients will be determined on a case by case basis

The Clinic says the restrictions were created to help protect everyone - patients, caregivers and the Ohio community.  Additionally, in following with Ohio Governor Mike DeWine's recommendation, Clinic workers will have thermal temperature checks before work each day.

At UH, no visitors will be allowed to see any patients who have tested positive for COVID-19, with no exceptions. Other measures include:

  • No visitors for patients at the Seidman Cancer Center or general medical floors
  • Surgical patients will be allowed one visitor and maternity patients will be allowed the same two visitors
  • Every visitor will be screened before entering the hospital and must have no flu-like symptoms or a fever over 99.6
  • Any exceptions will have to come directly from the Chief Medical Officer or the Chief Nursing Officer

169 people have so far tested positive for the coronavirus in Ohio, with one Lucas County man dying from the disease. UH has released these guidelines to check for symptoms:
