Akron school closes after staff member's coronavirus contact

‘The staff member has no coronavirus symptoms and has reported feeling fine.’

AKRON, Ohio — Betty Jane Community Learning Center was closed Friday after a staff member came in contact with somebody who tested positive for the coronavirus.

Akron school officials say they were notified of the situation Friday morning after the staff member received the news. The exposure involved a confirmed case with somebody in Cuyahoga County.

“Any students and staff who had direct contact with the staff member, will receive personal calls at their homes today to notify them of the contact,” school officials said in an online statement. “Again, the staff member has no coronavirus symptoms at this time.”

The school will also be closed again this coming Monday, March 16.

“The staff member has no coronavirus symptoms and has reported feeling fine,” school officials wrote in a statement.

Meanwhile, all schools in the state have been ordered by Gov. Mike DeWine to close for a three-week period after classes end next Monday.

Fuchs Mizrachi School in Beachwood closed earlier this week after a rabbi who tested positive for coronavirus had visited their building.
