Cleveland Browns place punter Jamie 'Scottish Hammer' Gillan on Reserve/COVID-19 list

A player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or who has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person is placed on the list.

BEREA, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns announced on Thursday that they have placed punter Jamie Gillan on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

According to the Browns, a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or who has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons, is placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Per agreed upon NFL-NFLPA policy, teams are not permitted to comment on player’s medical status other than referring to roster status. They also cannot disclose whether player is in quarantine or is positive for COVID-19.

Gillan, known by the nickname 'The Scottish Hammer,' appeared in all 16 games last season and set a Browns single-season net punting record with a 41.6 average.

He finished tied for fifth in club history with 28 punts inside the 20.

On Wednesday, the Browns announced that guard Drew Forbes and offensive tackle Drake Dorbeck have chosen not to participate in the upcoming campaign. Under the agreement made between the NFL and its players' association amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, any player may choose to opt out of participating in the 2020 season for any reason. In order to do so, the player must provide the club with written notice of his plans to do so. Once a player opts out, the notice will be irrevocable for the remainder of the 2020 season.
