CLEVELAND — Giant Eagle announced on Monday they'll be limiting the number of people in stores at one time, in order to comply coronavirus social distancing practices.
The new policy will let 50 percent of the normal occupancy allowed by the fire code, including Giant Eagle employees. Additionally, stores will use every other check-out lane when possible, and certain employees will be appointed to ensure everyone in the store is adhering to social distancing recommendations.
"The safety and well-being of our Team Members and guests is and will continue to be our top priority," a spokesperson said in a press release. "As supermarkets, convenience stores and pharmacies remain in operation as essential community resources, we believe it's vital to heighten our social distancing and sanitization procedures throughout the store."
While it was unclear from the press release when exactly this policy would take effect, Giant Eagle has said it be, "in the coming days."
In addition to these changes, Giant Eagle is asking customers help their social distancing efforts by:
- Using curbside pickup and delivery options when possible
- Sending just one person per household to the store
- Consider wearing masks and gloves in the store
- Respect six-feet-or-more social distance
- Using self-checkout and Scan Pay & Go options
- Use credit or debit payment
- Not visiting if you're sick.
