Gov. DeWine issues order to close salons, barbershops & tattoo parlors

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has issued an order to close hair salons, barbershops, nail salons and tattoo parlors across the state.

STOW, Ohio — Getting a haircut, a color and style, or getting your nails done is going to have to wait, thanks to the coronavirus.

On Wednesday, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine issued an order to close hair and nail salons, barbershops and tattoo parlors across the state. The announcement caused a frenzy at Gavin Scott Salon and Spa in Stow, leaving co-owner Kristie Warner conflicted.

"We have 50% of our clientele saying, 'Get me in, get me in, get me in,' and 50% saying, 'I'm not coming in,'" she explained.

The connections we have with the person who cuts our hair is a very personal one and knowing all those who work to make us look our best are out of a job is painful.

"We had to tell our staff we're closed indefinitely," Warner said, starting to cry. "We have no idea what's next...I'm sure there'll be tears. It just is what it is."

Gavin Scott Salon and their employees have been there for the Stow community and Kristie is confident in their support during and after this crisis.

"The last 12 years we've spent a lot of time and a lot of energy cementing ourselves in the community," Warner said. "I really feel like they will support us in the end. It could be two weeks, or four weeks, but I still think they'll be here to support us in the end."

Any business that remains open has been asked to perform temperature checks of its employees on a daily basis. As of Wednesday, 88 positive cases of the coronavirus has been found in Ohio, 26 of which have required hospitalization.

Dating back to the discovery of the first positive case in Ohio last week, DeWine has issued a number of orders, including the banning of mass gatherings of more than 50 people, the closure of bars, restaurants gyms, health centers and movie theaters, closing K-12 schools for at least three weeks and a restriction against elective surgeries for doctors, including dentists and veterinarians.
