Gov. Mike DeWine not holding coronavirus press conference today: Here's why

His next coronavirus-related press conference will be held Thursday, May 7.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — If you were hoping to enjoy some "wine with DeWine" at 2 p.m. today, you will have to wait until Thursday. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine will not be holding his daily coronavirus press conference today (Wednesday, May 6).

But why?

"We will not be here tomorrow [because] legislature is in session" DeWine announced during his Tuesday afternoon press conference. "Those of you who watch the Ohio Channel will have the opportunity to watch the state legislature. It's our goal to be back here on Thursday. ... Barring something unforeseen and we need to come back here tomorrow, we probably will not be here tomorrow. We look forward to seeing you all on Thursday."

Don't worry. He will be back May 7 with a handful of expected announcements -- including reopening plans for restaurants, day cares and salons.

As of Tuesday, Ohio has seen five consecutive days in which fewer new cases of COVID-19 have been reported. Federal guidelines suggest a true downward trend is 14-straight days with a decline in new cases.
