Ohio coronavirus update: 7,791 cases, 361 deaths; Gov. DeWine approves release of 105 prison inmates

DeWine has also asked industries to give him their safety plans for when their businesses return to work.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — On Wednesday, Gov. Mike DeWine, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, and Dr. Amy Acton held a briefing with the media on the latest developments in Ohio's battle against COVID-19 at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.

The Ohio Department of Health reports that there are now 7791 confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus in the state. 361 people have died and 2,237 have been hospitalized.

DeWine announced he has approved the release of 105 inmates, who had previously been set for release over the course of the next 90 days. Each inmate will be tested to determine if they have coronavirus prior to their release.

Also from Wednesday, DeWine says that he has asked each industry for their plans to ensure the safety of their customers and employees once non-essential businesses are reopened.

In addition, DeWine announced that Battelle has expanded its partnership with the state to sanitize N-95 masks for all first responders. The service, which Battelle is providing for free, will include law enforcement agencies and EMS providers.
