Maternity services to resume at Summa Health System's Barberton campus

Services had previously been suspended due to growing concern from the COVID-19 pandemic.

BARBERTON, Ohio — Suma Health announced in a press release on Wednesday that they will resume maternity services at their Barberton Campus on June 8, 2020.

Maternity services had previously been temporarily suspended on April 3, 2020 "out of an abundance of caution for pregnant patients" after an increase in COVID-19 cases. Patients seeking maternity services were forwarded to the Akron Campus during that time.

"As COVID-19 cases decline in Ohio, the need for additional bed space on the Barberton Campus has subsided," the release states. "Ensuring a smooth transition for pregnant patients is a top priority."

The Barberton Campus OB/GYN has recently been awarded its fifth and final star from the Ohio First Steps for Healthy Babies review committee, an Ohio Hospital Association and Ohio Department of Health program that recognizes maternity centers throughout the state for promoting and supporting breastfeeding in their organization.

"Summa Health looks forward to continuing multidisciplinary services of OB/GYN, delivery and pre/postnatal support and welcoming back patients in the barberton and surrounding communities."
