MetroHealth receives $1 million donation from Bay Village entrepreneur

Miguel Zubizarreta asked MetroHealth what they needed for the COVID-19 response, and delivered.

CLEVELAND — Even without sporting events, bars, restaurants, nightlife, businesses, and toilet paper, the Northeast Ohio community spirit remains strong.

Shortly after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the novel coronavirus a pandemic, a Bay Village man named Miguel Zubizarreta wanted to help this area fight COVID-19, so he called MetroHealth to ask the hospital system what it needed most.

What was needed at MetroHealth was similar to what other hospitals everywhere are in dire need of right now; protective equipment, ventilators, and other supplies as the confirmed cases of coronavirus grows. The Former Chief Technology Officer of Hyland Software donated $1 million dollars to MetroHealth to help with those costs.

Miguel and his wife Denise donated to MetroHealth in the past to help design, construct and furnish The Zubizarreta House. This structure was built to help care for those with spinal cord injuries and those who need help while receiving treatment at MetroHealth.

With hometown heroes like Miguel and Denise, the light at the end of the coronavirus tunnel gets a little bit brighter.
