For the second day in a row, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine will offer an update regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and its increasing impact on the state.
We will stream live coverage of Gov. DeWine’s 2 p.m. press conference inside this story. You can also watch live on the WKYC Facebook and YouTube pages.
What will he say today? Here's an outline of what you can likely expect...
HOSPITAL CONCERNS
The impact on hospitals has been a big talking point for Gov. DeWine in recent days. He even held a briefing Monday afternoon with the focus geared toward hospitals in which it was reported that nearly 1,000 staff members within the Cleveland Clinic system are currently missing work due to infection or exposure.
Gov. DeWine also addressed his concerns about hospitals last week during a brief visit to Cleveland.
"Even if we turn this ship around right today, we know that hospital admissions, at least for a while, are going to continue to go up," he said on Nov. 18. "That’s what’s scary. This is not sustainable. We have to turn this thing around, and we have the ability to do it. I’m asking every Ohioan to cut back on things you’re doing. Stay home more.”
THANKSGIVING ADVICE
Health officials have been warning for weeks against gathering for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, some advising everybody skip celebrating turkey day with people who don’t live in their own house. Gov. DeWine has also addressed this in recent weeks, but it’s likely he will make some comment regarding the extra precautions Ohioans should take this year since Thanksgiving is just two days away.
COVID-19 DATA LAG
Since late last week, Ohio has been reporting incomplete COVID-19 data each day. When can we expect complete reports? We may get an update on this issue today.
THE CURFEW’S EFFECT
Gov. DeWine’s statewide curfew has now been in effect since last Thursday. Is it working? Will there be any additional changes coming in the days ahead?
BMV EXTENSIONS
The state has extended the expiration date for drivers licenses, identification cards and vehicle registrations that have expired since March. Those expired documents will now be valid until July 1, 2021, thanks to Ohio House Bill 404, which Gov. DeWine signed into law earlier Tuesday.
