AKRON, Ohio — The Summit County Sheriff's Office announced in a Facebook post this morning that they will begin patrolling local parks to help more strictly enforce social distancing guidelines.
The post's message was clear: "Stop spreading the virus!"
"Some people are not taking the governor's orders and recommendations of health experts seriously," the post read. "They continue to ignore social distancing protocol by congregating in tight groups and engaging in closeup conversation in public parks and ball fields. This is very irresponsible."
Summit County Sheriff's Office did make it clear that the increased patrols were not meant to discourage people from going outside and visiting the parks. "We don't want to discourage people from enjoying their favorite park or ball field, but practice proper social distancing."
So far in Summit County, there have been 131 confirmed coronavirus cases, with 32 new cases in the last week. Five people in Summit County have died from the virus.
