Summa Health strengthens visitation restrictions amid coronavirus concerns

Ohio reported its first confirmed cases of coronavirus earlier this week.

AKRON, Ohio — Summa Health officials have announced enhanced visitation restrictions now in effect at all of their facilities in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus.

  • Prior to being allowed hospital access, each visitor will have their temperature taken. Those who have a temperature of 100˚F or greater will be denied access.
  • Visitation will be limited to two healthy persons per day, 16 years of age or older.
  • Visitation will only be allowed between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. No visitors will be allowed access to the hospital after 10 p.m.

**Exceptions will be made for extreme circumstances, such as severe illness of a loved one or end-of-life situations.

Earlier this week, Summa Health had announced that those planning to come to a facility must adhere to the following:

  • Visitors experiencing flu-like or cold symptoms are restricted from visiting.
  • Only two visitors or caregivers will be permitted into the facility.
  • Visitors must be older than 12 years of age per policy from the Ohio Department of Health.
  • Visitors are encouraged to remain in the patient's room.

The restrictions listed above are all in effect until further notice.

Summa Health has also established a coronavirus call line, which is being answered 24/7 by trained clinical staff at 234-867-6314. Since starting the phone line on March 4, Summa Health officials say they have received nearly 300 calls.

Earlier this week, the first confirmed cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Northeast Ohio.
