According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the opening of the mass vaccination site has been pushed back due to a delay in shipments of the COVID-19 vaccine. It's anticipated that the site will now open in early-April.

The opening of Summit County's mass COVID-19 vaccination site was set to occur two weeks after Cuyahoga County opened the state's first mass vaccination site at Cleveland State's Wolstein Center. Thus far, the mass vaccination site in downtown Cleveland has been considered a huge success, with Ohio Department of Health Director Stephanie McCloud applauding what she described as a "Herculean effort."

"Folks and community members and volunteers from all over, the Cleveland Fire Department, the Department of Defense, the Ohio National Guard and the 101st Airborne have put together over 500 service members who work in shifts," Director McCloud said while speaking from the Wolstein Center on Monday. "Cleveland State University, we obviously want to thank them for hosting as well as providing us opportunity."

This coming Monday also marks the first day in which all Ohioans 16-years-old and older will officially be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. While Ohioans age 40-years-old and older, as well as those with qualifying medical conditions and occupations, are currently eligible to receive the vaccine, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced earlier this week that he was authorizing all vaccine providers to give the vaccine to any Ohioan age 16-years-old or older, provided they have openings on their schedule to do so.
