University Hospitals seeking volunteers to sew coronavirus masks

University Hospitals is hoping to collect 100,000 masks for its caregivers.

As it continues to do its part in combating the coronavirus (COVID-19), University Hospitals is asking for help.

With an expected surge in coronavirus cases, University Hospitals is providing kits for volunteers to make homemade masks for its caregivers. Since first putting out a call for masks on March 31, University Hospitals said it's received 15,000. Its goal is to amass 100,000 over a two-week span.

"University Hospitals is grateful to all individuals and organizations willing to help our caregivers, patients and community during the COVID-19 crisis," University Hospitals said in a press release. "We’re asking the community to continue supporting this effort to provide needed protection to caregivers."

UH is asking members of the public sufficient in sewing to pick-up kits containing the materials needed to make 10 masks and return the completed masks as soon as possible. Kits can be picked up and dropped off between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  at the following locations:

  • UH Elyria Medical Center, main entrance valet
  • UH Geauga Medical Center, main entrance valet
  • UH Parma Medical Center, main entrance
  • UH Management Services Center, back entrance

UH says that "it’s very important that volunteers follow the UH-specific design and use the materials provided." More information can be found at U-H's website.
