CLEVELAND — One week after the CDC and FDA authorized updated COVID-19 boosters for kids, the Cleveland Clinic has begun scheduling the updated boosters for children between the ages of 5 and 11 years old.
According to the Clinic, the single-dose boosters produced by Pfizer and Moderna can be given two months after the primary vaccination or “original” booster dose. These vaccines are expected to provide better protection against currently circulating strains of COVID, and contain messenger RNA components of the original COVID-19 strain, as well as components of the omicron (BA4 & BA5) variant.
The Cleveland Clinic is offering the updated boosters by appointment only at its vaccination sites located at Hillcrest and Fairview Hospitals. Appointments can be made via MyChart or by calling 216-448-4117.
Appointments are available Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (ET). The updated COVID-19 vaccine will also be available at many previously scheduled primary care or pediatrician appointments.
The Cleveland Clinic also noted that it is still scheduling flu vaccines for kids and adults. The Clinic noted that the CDC recommends getting your flu vaccine before the end of October and that thus far, it has been seeing a lower turnout of kids this year.
