The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) is teaming up with Neighborhood Family Practice (NFP) to make COVID-19 vaccines more easily available to members of the local Hispanic/Latinx community through a one-day vaccine clinic.
The clinic will be held on Wednesday, February 17 from 2-5 p.m. at La Sagrada Familia Church on 7719 Detroit Avenue in Cleveland. (Note: Registration for the event is full)
“Latinx communities have experienced a disproportionately higher burden of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations, even when compared to Black communities, making effective vaccine administration even more essential,” says Chad Garven, MD, MPH, associate medical director at NFP.
The NFP points to three key reasons why these clinics are so vital:
- COVID-19 is disproportionately impacting communities of color.
- The estimated age-adjusted COVID-19 mortality rate for Hispanic/Latinx Americans is 2.5x higher than for white Americans.
- Black and Hispanic/Latinx Americans are at heightened clinical health risk for severe COVID-19 symptoms.
