According to a recent Pew Research Center poll 62% of Americans believe Marijuana should be legalized.
Recreational use is now legal in 9 states and the District of Columbia and more than half of the states, including Ohio, have approved it for medical use. However it's still illegal under federal law.
That's not stopping people from cashing in on an industry that once only belonged to drug dealers. And the man in front of investment information is none other than former house speaker and Ohio congressman John Boehner.
While in Congress, Republican John Boehner was a staunch opponent of marijuana. This past April, he joined the advisory board of Acreage Holdings, a company that cultivates, processes, and dispenses cannabis in 11 states.
Tuesday, he'll be part of an online seminar meant to educate investors about how they too can profit from this lucrative industry.
The online event is hosted by the National Institute for Cannabis Investing. Boehner is quoted as saying, "The next generation of billion-dollar cannabis companies are ripe for the picking, you just have to make smart moves. Don't go blindly investing in this sector because it's exciting and you don't want to miss the boat. Cannabis is here to stay, the industry is only getting bigger, and I am all in."
Boehner, is now also senior strategic advisor with Squire Patton Boggs law firm. On Monday evening, he is delivering the keynote address at the Cleveland Clinic Medical Innovation Summit about his predictions for healthcare politics and policy.
