The secret behind former Cleveland Browns OT Joe Thomas' successful weight loss plan

The future Hall of Famer has shed more than 50 pounds since his retirement from the NFL

If you pay any attention to Joe Thomas' Twitter you'll learn about more than just his podcast and his work on NFL Network.

The former Cleveland Browns offensive lineman will show you the foods he's been eating that helped him shed more than fifty pounds. Lots of pictures of protein and vegetables.

When the before and after picture came out over the weekend, Joe came clean with his secret.

He Tweeted: Two easy steps. Stop eating breakfast and stop eating carbs.

But there's a little more to it than that. He pairs the Ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting. Keto is a low carb, high fat diet that has helped many shed a lot of unwanted weight.  It shifts the body's metabolism to using fat for fuel instead of relying on carbs.

Joe says he only eats between noon and six pm.

The diet helped him lose 25 pounds the first month, but admits it was work to keep losing weight.  He also sticks to 1,500 to 2,000 calories a day of foods that are slow digesting, such as meat and veggies for fiber to keep him full.

But that's not all. He swims 30 to 45 laps twice a week for cardio, a great workout for joints that were beaten senseless for eleven years with the Browns. He's also into yoga and keeps up a weight lifting routine.

He admits to cheating on the diet when he goes out with friends or family, but gets a workout in beforehand to counter the extra carbs.
