Toledo, Canton among the fattest cities in the United States, according to list

WalletHub compared 100 of the most populated U.S. metro areas across 19 key indicators of weight-related problems

CLEVELAND — A new study from our friends at WalletHub has revealed the 100 fattest cities in America.

Unfortunately, several Northern Ohio communities are prominent on the list. In fact, 8 of the top 60 fattest cities in the U.S. are in Ohio.

Toledo checks in as the No. 8 fattest city in America. In a closer examination of the highest share of obese adults in the nation, the 'Glass City' is second in the country behind this year's fattest metro area, McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, Texas.

The Canton-Massillon metro area ranked No. 21 in the United States. WalletHub has also calculated that the fourth-highest share of adults with diabetes in the nation are in that Stark County metro area.

The study ranked 100 of the most populated areas in America across 19 key indicators of weight-related problems such as adult obesity, physically inactive adults and the highest percentage of adults with high blood pressure.

Here is how other Ohio cities finished in the study:

  • Dayton - No. 35
  • Youngstown-Warren-Boardman - No. 37
  • Columbus - No. 44
  • Akron - No. 50
  • Cleveland-Elyria - No. 51
  • Cincinnati - No. 60

In addition, the highest share of adults with high cholesterol in the U.S. was in the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman metro area.
