Scam Squad: New twist to W-2 phishing scams

Here's how to protect yourself.

W-2 Phishing scams are once again hitting businesses, and this year they are targeting schools and nonprofits as well.

Scam artists will spoof an e-mail of a company executive and message someone in human resources or go directly to employees to ask for a copy of their W-2, which includes social security numbers.

It’s easy to fall for since people think they are sending the information to their boss.

If you get an e-mail, the best thing to do is pause and go directly to your boss to confirm it is from them.

If you want to report a scam or have a question for the Cuyahoga County scam squad you can call them at 216-443-SCAM.
