LIST | Free Northeast Ohio events for MLK Day

As the winter storm subsides and Clevelanders are itching to kick the cabin fever, there are plenty of events happening in celebration of Martin Luther King Day Monday.

Some places are offering free admission while others are also offering special programs dedicated to Dr. King. 

Check out a list of various activities, events and free admission across the area:

Akron Zoo

What: Enjoy free admission to the Akron Zoo Monday in celebration of Dr. King. The Akron chapter of the NAACP will be on site with fun activities. Learn more here.

When: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cleveland Aquarium

What: Spend the day under the sea at the aquarium's Discount Day. A $1 donation gets you $10 toward admission and access to some MLK fun, including a "Search for Greatness" scavenger hunt as the aquarium teaches guests about African-Americans who have had an influence on marine science. Cleveland Museum of Art

What: Celebrate Dr. King's legacy at the art museum with music, dance, theater and spoken word. Several area performance groups will be on hand and a variety of activities and tours will be provided. Learn more here.

When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cleveland Museum of Natural History

What: Enjoy free admission to the museum for a day of discovery. See lab specimens not typically on display, demonstrations from local scientists and students and meet the animals in the wildlife center. Learn more here.

Great Lakes Science Center

What: Enjoy free admission and a full day of activities and exploration at the science center, including demonstrations, discoveries and more. See the schedule here.

When: 10 a.m to 5 p.m.

Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage

What: Enjoy free admission to the museum, which will is celebrating MLK Day with "Hear Our Voices." See live performances, hear panel discussions and try hands-on crafts and activities for kids. Learn more here.

Mentor Ice Arena

What: Check out the Mentor Ice Arena for a day of free skating. Our Jasmine Monroe was there this morning to give it a try herself:

North Coast Harbor Ice Fest

What: Spend some time outside the Rock Hall and Great Lakes Science Center, where this free event will offer three dozen ice displays. There will be crafts, hot cocoa, giveaways and live entertainment, and as a bonus, the Rock Hall and science center will offer free admission. Learn more here.

Penitentiary Glen Reservation

What: Head to the Fun Day Monday event, full of free activities to keep kids busy before they head back to school. They'll have scavenger hunts, interactive displays, animal encounters and s'mores. Find out more here.

When: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

What: Enjoy free admission the the Rock Hall, where there will be special live performances and educational programs all day. The Rock Hall will also spend the day taking donations of cold weather accessories for Clevelanders in need. Learn more here.

Severance Hall

What: Check out free performances from various groups at Severance Hall all afternoon. Get the schedule here.
