Three children have been placed in the care of a 'responsible family member' after an incident in Rocky River earlier this month in which they were left inside of a hot car at the Rocky River Shopping Plaza.

According to police officials, the incident happened on July 3 at the plaza located on Center Ridge Road. An officer was flagged down in the parking lot and was told that three children were left unattended in a car with only the windows cracked.

Weather records show that the temperature reached 78 degrees that day and police say that the children were inside of the car for at least 20 minutes while the parents were inside a store shopping.

Rocky River officials tell 3News that both parents were arrested for child endangerment and the incident was immediately reported to the Department of Children and Family Services.
