NORTH CAROLINA-- Federal, state, and local emergency management experts and other official preparedness organizations all agree that "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" is the appropriate action to reduce injury and death during earthquakes.
Believe it or not, North Carolina does have its share of earthquakes and some local schools and agencies are participating in drills on Thursday. The 'Great ShakeOut' day is for schools, companies and agencies to take a serious approach to earthquakes by having drills. The drills are designed much like tornado or fire drills to educate employees, students and others on what to do should an earthquake hit your area.
Three words to know during an earthquake: Drop! Cover! Hold!
The ShakeOut is our opportunity to practice how to protect ourselves during earthquakes.
