Three-year-old girl killed in Garfield Heights fire; Ohio Fire Marshals investigating

Officials say no one else was injured during the fire.

GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Garfield Heights Fire Department has confirmed that a three-year-old died in a fire on Sunday. 

According to Chief Kenneth Strope, GHFD was called to a fire on East 131st Street in Garfield Heights around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday and found heavy fire and smoke from the home's second story.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's office confirmed that the victim was three-year-old Kalmari Maddox of Cleveland. Kalmari's great-grandmother, Flora Knox, and her 5-year-old brother, Kelvon Maddox Jr., were able to escape the fire without injury.  

Officials say that no one else was injured and that the Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire at this time.
