CLEVELAND — Brief Advice Clinics are back at The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, and 3News' Stephanie Haney will be volunteering her time at this weekend's clinic on Saturday at the Cleveland Public Library.
The free clinic, which opens at 10 AM on June 11, caps off a weeklong fundraiser Stephanie has been leading on social media to support the services provided by Legal Aid.
Stephanie, who serves as 3News legal analyst and is licensed to practice law in Ohio and California, has partnered with the group for its #ExtendJustice in June campaign by giving a live tour of its offices on Instagram and sharing informational posts about its services and the people who benefit from them. The goal is to raise $3,000 for Legal Aid by Sunday, June 12.
"Legal Aid is special to me," Stephanie said. "I became a lawyer because I’ve always felt that the law should be a great equalizer, but the reality is that unfortunately all too often it isn't - because the people who need its protection the most lack access to representation. That’s where Legal Aid comes in.
"This incredible group provides much-needed legal services to people with low incomes in Northeast Ohio, and they’ve been doing it for more than 100 years. Last year alone, Legal Aid helped more than 17,300 people in more than 6,600 cases, and thousands more through community outreach and education."
Speaking of community outreach, on Saturday, people with civil legal questions can stop by the Brief Advice Clinic at the Cleveland Public Library, where they will be seen on a first come, first served basis. As a reminder, Legal Aid does not help with criminal legal issues. The issues they can help with include problems related to including consumer rights, domestic violence, education, employment, family law, health, housing, foreclosure, immigration, public benefits, utilities, and tax.
Legal Aid's mission is to secure justice and resolve fundamental problems for those who have low incomes and are vulnerable by providing high-quality legal services and working for systemic solutions.
