AKRON, Ohio -- School officials say they were forced to close Buchtel High School and Buchtel Middle School on Wednesday because of a nearby house fire.
Mark Williamson with the Akron Public School District tells WKYC heavy smoke was blowing across the street toward the schools, which is why classes were canceled.
The fire, located at a home in the 1000 block of Copley Road, sparked shortly before 7 a.m.
One person was treated at the scene. Five people have been displaced.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
