AKRON, Ohio — A 3-year-old girl has died after authorities say she was struck by a vehicle in Akron on Monday afternoon.
It was around 2:12 p.m. when Akron police say the child “ran into the parking lot and into the path of the moving vehicle” in the 1100 block of Palmetto Avenue.
“The vehicle struck the child, knocking her to the ground,” according to details released Tuesday by the Akron Police Department.
The girl later died at Akron Children’s Hospital. Her name was not released.
Police say the driver of the vehicle, identified as a 42-year-old woman, was reportedly unaware that she had struck the child.
“Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factored in the incident,” according to Akron police.
The incident remains under investigation.
