32-year-old woman killed in car crash in Akron

A 32-year-old woman was killed in a car crash that took place in Akron on Tuesday.

AKRON, Ohio — A 32-year-old woman was killed in a car crash that took place in Akron on Tuesday morning.

According to Akron Police, the incident occurred at approximately 8:33 a.m. when a Chevy Impala and Kia Optima traveling northbound were stopped at a red light on Machester Rd. at W. Wilbeth Rd. Subsequently, a Ford Taurus being driven by a 35-year-old man traveling northbound failed to maintain an assured clear distance and proceeded to strike the Kia from behind.

Due to the impact, the Kia was pushed into the Chevy. Upon arrival, personnel found the driver of the Kia, a 32-year-old woman, unresponsive and transported her to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Neither the driver of the Ford nor the driver of the Chevy were injured in the crash.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that speed and alcohol/drugs are believed to be contributing factors in the crash. An investigation is ongoing, with charges expected following its conclusion.
