Akron bookstore closing, holding clearance sale until Saturday evening

All books must go – and that means all 4,000 of them that are left.

AKRON, Ohio — For nearly three decades, it's been a business built on the love of reading – and discovering.

But for Bill Chappelear, a retired librarian, it's time to close a chapter at Buckeye Bookshop.

"We're looking forward to doing some other things while we're still young and healthy. It's mixed emotions," Chappelear tells 3News.

Retiring means saying goodbye to these beloved books. At one point the store had about 50,000 of them.

Whether it's one book ---- or a whole bag full. Customers have been coming in to grab what's left. But Saturday at 6 p.m. – the sale is over and they'll be closing their doors. But there's one unique twist to this story.

"I will accept 500 dollars for what we have left on the shelves. At this point I estimate about 4,000 books remaining," Bill says.

If there are no takers, he plans to donate the books to libraries. As one chapter closes, another opens. While retired, Chappelear says he's still stay connected, keeping updated with an online retail store, but it won't compare to this place.
