A 27-year-old Akron man has pled guilty to multiple charges Friday stemming from a December murder and robbery at Luei's Market on Hammel St., Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced.

Authorities say Jarvell Henderson, of Everton Dr., robbed the store back on Dec. 26 at gunpoint before being pepper-sprayed by 59-year-old customer David Dzatko. Henderson shot Dzatko once, and the victim later died. The incident occurred roughly four hours after Henderson fired several shots at another person at a local gas station.

Henderson was later arrested the next day and booked on aggravated murder charges, which meant he could have faced the death penalty. However, on Friday Henderson accepted the lesser charges of murder, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault, all with a gun specification. Judge Tammy O'Brien immediately sentenced him to life in prison, and he will be eligible for parole after 35 years.

The fatal shooting occurred just six months after Henderson was released from another prison in Missouri, where he had served a 10-year sentence for armed robbery.
