AKRON -- An Akron man on Tuesday pleaded guilty to killing his own mother last year.

Michael Gleisinger, 49, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and failure to provide for a functionally impaired person in Summit County Court. He previously faced murder charges.

Gleisinger stabbed his mother, 78-year-old Nancy Gleisinger, in their Crystral Street home on May 16, 2017. Nancy Gleisinger had Alzheimer's and her son was her primary caregiver at the time of the incident. Police say the stabbing was a result of a domestic dispute.

The Summit County Prosecutor's Office says Michael Gleisinger has suffered from mental health issues for much of his life and recently spent time at Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare System.

Michael Gleisinger is scheduled for sentencing June 26.
