Akron police investigating 2 separate, early-morning homicides

Anyone with information on either killing is asked to call the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at (330) 375-2490.

Police in Akron are currently investigating after two men were shot dead in what appear to be separate incidents early Saturday morning.

The first homicide occurred just after 3:30 a.m. on the 600 block of Schiller Ave., where authorities say a 46-year-old man was found lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his head. He later died at Akron City Hospital.

According to officials, the second incident took place sometime between 4:30 and 6 a.m., when a 58-year-old victim was also found shot in the head in a parking lot on the 300 block of South Arlington St.

The victims' names have not yet been released, and few details on possible suspects are known at this time. Police do not believe the shootings are related.

The killings were part of a violent night in Akron that saw five others shot, including two 17-year-olds (one of whom is in critical condition).

Anyone with information on any of these incidents is asked to call the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at (330) 375-2490, the U.S. Marshals Service at (866) 492-6833, or the Summit County Crimestoppers at (330) 434-2677. Anonymous tips can also be texted to 274637.
