Akron Police warn of potential traffic pattern changes ahead of protests

AKRON, Ohio — The Akron Police Department has issued a warning regarding potential traffic pattern changes ahead of Sunday's protest over the death of George Floyd and racial injustices in west Akron. 

Officials are monitoring the Wallhaven area and anticipating lane restrictions, detours and back-ups between 5:00 p.m. and midnight. 

Drivers are advised to take an alternative route and avoid the area.

The city of Akron also issued a statement saying that violence during tonight's protest will not be tolerated.
